“The focus of our practice is restoring long-term functionality, pain elimination, and reducing both downtime and rehab.”
William G. Sutlive III, MD
Why does certification matter?
Dr. William Sutlive III is an orthopedic specialist with over 38 years in the field of sports medicine and personal injury. Dr. Sutlive, known to his patients as “Dr. Bill” is dedicated to personalized individual medical care delivered with a caring, friendly smile.
Conservative Treatment of Orthopedic Injuries
Dr. William Sutlive is a Georgia-boy through and through. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Georgia, earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia, and completed his internship and residency at Georgia Baptist Hospital.
Dr. Sutlive specializes in the non-operative treatment of sports injuries and the conservative treatment of orthopedic disease.
“Dr. Bill,” as he is known, is also a specialist in the field of industrial medicine. He was the in-house orthopedic consultant for the General Motors assembly plant in Doraville, Georgia, where he oversaw the treatment and rehabilitation of complex industrial injuries. Indeed, he takes a particular pride in having treated assembly line workers at GM, as well as professional race car drivers, including Peppy Pulombo.
With over 38 years in the field of orthopedic medicine, most of them spent in Atlanta, Dr. Bill is pleased to be back in Savannah. He took over as Medical Director of OrthoPooler in September of 2018.
He and his wife Robin enjoy fishing, boating, and other outdoor activities.
Sports Medicine in Pooler, Georgia
Dr. William Sutlive will point out that, despite the headlines whenever a famous athlete ruptures an ACL or needs Tommy John surgery, most sports medicine these days is focused on everyday injuries suffered by working people with a passion for sport or healthy lifestyles.
That doesn’t mean their injuries are any less serious, or that treatment should be in any way less than state of the art.
An outdoorsman himself, Dr. Sutlive understands the passion and dedication of athletes at every level. He served as the team physician for the Atlanta Ruckus professional soccer team, and is a well-known specialist in the field of sports medicine. His goal (and our goal at Ortho Pooler) is always to get our patients back in the game, performing pain-free again at the level to which they are accustomed.
We work with young athletes, with middle-aged men and women who work and play as if they were kids, and with older patients who hope to remain active throughout their golden years. “There’s a lot to do here on the coast, lots of interesting people,” Dr. Sutlive says. “We are here to make sure that they get to enjoy all that Savannah, its islands, and our coast have to offer.”
